About the group

38 years, told straight.

Nalanda has taught since 1988 — longer than online education has existed. This page is the record: where we began, how large we grew, what we chose to keep, and where we are going.

One school in Vijayawada

In August 1988, Vijaya Babu A, Subba Rao A, Busavapurnaya V & Rambabu K founded Nalanda Vidya Niketan in Vijayawada. The motto they chose — Il Tutto Pronto, prepared for all challenges — still describes the house style: weekly tests, open doors, results published rather than promised.

A movement across Andhra

By 2004, Nalanda’s classrooms stretched across 55 campuses in 38 towns and cities, with a faculty over a thousand strong. The graduates of those years are the real record — an alumni body spread across the world, now being counted from the admission registers.

Grown beyond us — and a choice

In 2008, our junior colleges had grown so large they became part of the Narayana group, one of Asia’s largest education networks. We kept the campuses closest to our founding purpose and went deep instead of wide.

Five institutions, one standard

Today the family runs from the first day of school to the first day of work: Nalanda Toddlers, Nalanda Vidya Niketan (CBSE, since 1988), Bloomingdale International School (IB), Nalanda Junior College (Intermediate), and Nalanda Degree College (since 2001) — about 14,000 students and 1,200 educators at a time.

What comes next

Nalanda Online will carry our teachers and our weekly testing rhythm beyond our campuses — live, wherever our students are. The medium changes. The standard doesn’t.
